The Salem Wildcats dropped the Shrine Classic for the 2nd straight year, losing at home to visiting Centralia 42-0. The Orphans scored touchdowns on all 3 possessions in the 1st quarter, with each ending with Archie Goewey throwing a TD pass to Kenny Bratton. The Orphans extended their lead to 28-0 at halftime when Goewey found Tyler Carruthers for another score. In the second half, the Orphans used their rushing attack and got scores from Michael Brown and Will Stanton. Salem is back in action at home next week when they host Olney. Centralia will open up their home scheduled against Collinsville.
In other action, Cole Stiegman connected with Brantley Kozuszek for a 4-yard td pass and hit Ganner Turner for the 2-point conversion with 4 seconds left to lead Nashville to a 28-21 win over Carlyle.
Sparta broke a 6-year winless streak by beating Madison on the road 48-32. Christopher ZR snapped a 20-game losing skid beating Eldorado 35-30 winning coach Mike Rudes debut as the Bearcats coach.
