Shirley M. Richards, age 92 of Salem, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at Salem Township Hospital
Shirley worked as a secretary for many years for Carl Cantrell Insurance Agency in Salem, and later managed and retired from the Shelter Insurance in Salem. She attended the Grace Church of the Nazarene in Salem. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Funeral services for Shirley Richards will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grace Church of the Nazarene in Salem with Doug Romine officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be given to the Down Syndrome Guild in Kansas City or the Salem Animal Shelter and left at the Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family with arrangements. Shirley was born on November 4, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Merle and Sadie (Menrath) Wayman. She married Leland Richards and they later divorced.
Survivors include her daughter, Terri Marcum of Salem; grandchildren, Michael Marcum and wife Laura of O’Fallon, Chad Marcum and wife Amy of Spring Hill, Kansas, Milissa Marcum of Salem, David Marcum and wife Danielle of Iuka, and Bradley Marcum and wife Madisson of Rochester, MN; great-grandchildren, Kara, Whitney, Jenna, Gillian, Ava, Willow, Cooper, Hailee, Owen, Emery, and Cora; sister-in-law: Gladys Burkett of Sterling; nieces, Kathy Bequette, Kristol Burkett, and Debbie Burkett; nephews, Rodney Richards, Bruce Duncan, and Bart Copple; and her pet shih tzu, Sugar.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Betty Richards, Sue Copple, and Bill Wayman.
