Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis will serve another term after defeating Donte Moore in Tuesday’s consolidated election. The final vote was Lewis 799 and Donte Moore 679. The winners in the Mt. Vernon City Council race were Paul Mike Young with 999 votes, and Joe Gliosci with 631 votes. Not winning a seat was Angela Whitfield with 582 votes.
Wamac Mayor Jackie ‘Butch’ Mathus held on to defeat Jeremy Howell in Tuesday’s election. Unofficial totals from Marion, Washington, and Clinton Counties show 106 votes for Mathus and 59 for Jeremy Howell.
The Mayor of Patoka, Betty Brumfield, was defeated by Stacey Hood 61 to 49 votes.
In Iuka, Billy Halfacre easily won a three-person race for Mayor to replace the retiring Janie Grimes. He finished with 111 votes. Troy Cannon had 18 votes and Dennis Schueren five votes.
In Junction City, Michael McHenry beat Brandon McClelland for Mayor with 83 to 23 votes.
There were also some contested village board races. In Patoka, Mark Landreth, with 88 votes, Clinton Hood with 76, and Nathan Payne with 64 won the three open seats. Jackie Orrell finished fourth without a seat with 62 votes. For the open two-year terms, Sharise McKinley with 63 votes, Donald Sturgeon with 62, and Lonnie Metcalf with 52 votes. Not winning seats were Rick French with 47 votes and Susan Spencer with 44.
In Odin, five candidates were vying for three open seats. The winners were Brian Vowell with 68 votes, Terry Nix with 55, and Teresa Parrish with 52 votes. Not winning seats were Melissa Jones with 43 points and Tanner Ray Patterson with 38.
In Vernon, top vote-getters were Ronald Hack with 17, Ellen Markin with 12, and Beth Thompson with 11. Not winning a seat was Abigail Evans with nine votes.
In Walnut Hill, Bryan Murray was top voter for trustee with 12 votes. Also winning seats were Mike Berning with 11 and Randy Peoples with 10. Christopher Russell, with three votes, failed to win a seat.
