Thomas Joseph Gura, 65, of Kinmundy, passed away at 4:47 PM, Saturday, March27, 2021 at the SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army and had two children with his then wife, Kathy Poffenbarger. In 1982, he married his wife of 38 years, Patricia French and had two children. Thomas was an amateur archaeologist/historian and a talented artist, who spent his later years coordinating Veterans Memorial events and serving the Kinmundy American Legion Post #519 as their Commander.

Memorial services honoring the life of Tom will be held at 7 PM, Monday, April 5, 2021 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Kinmundy. Visitation will be held on Monday evening at the funeral home where friends may call from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior’s Project. Tom is survived by his wife; Patricia A Gura, of Kinmundy, children; Stacie Gura, of Champaign, Joshua Gura, of Sweden, Justin (Michael) Gura, of New Hampshire, 2 grandchildren; Opheliah Dae Lowry, Oliver Andrew Lowry. He is also survived by 2 brothers; Matthew (Jenny), Michael (Debbie), of Kinmundy, and 6 sisters; Rose, Sandy, Tina, Cathy, Nadine, and Christne.

Thomas was born on December 1, 1955, in Joliet, Illinois the son of the late John C. and Agnes (Burian) Gura. Mr. Gura was preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Amiee Lynn Gura, sister; Marianne Gura, and 3 brothers; John, Bill, and Bobby Gura.
