Lanuard Bufkin, Sr., departed his life on Monday, March 22, 2021, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1957, to Benjamin Bufkin, Sr. and Leoder Mae (Gill) Bufkin in Decatur, Mississippi as the 6th child of 12. Lanuard professed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Ohio River.
He was a member of First MB Church in Mounds City, Illinois where his father served as Pastor. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1975 and later worked at Burkheart in Cairo, Illinois. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Bufkin; four brothers, Walter Bufkin, Benjamin Bufkin, Jr., James Mallard Bufkin, and Dennis Carl Bufkin; and three sisters, Lillian Bailey, Lois Brown, and Dawn Lorraine Bufkin.
Lan and L.B., as we love to call him, loved junking. His love and concern for others extended beyond family like delivering for Meal on Wheels and helping his neighbors and others.
He leaves to mourn his departure two sons, Lanuard Bufkin, Jr. and Zemry Benjamin Bufkin, both of Las Vegas; nine sisters, Mattie Adams, Vinella Calvin of Memphis, Tennessee, Joyce Johnson of Mounds City, Glenda (Flozell) Bates of Centralia, Jacqueline Griggs of Venice, Illinois, Carolyn (Gary) Cooper of O’Fallon, Bridget (Michael) Dunlap, Stephanie (Enoch) Chambers, both of St. Louis, Missouri, and Stacy Flagg of Atlanta, Georgia; one special son and a step-daughter, Darnezi Perkins and Alicia Perkins of Centralia; one uncle, Paul Gill of South Bend, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Second Baptist Church today at 11 a.m. Professional Funeral Directors Services, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri is assisting the family. Condolences may be left on the website, www.pfds.com.
