The 2x defending IHSA state bowling champion Salem Wildcats got off to a slow start on Saturday at their regional tournament held at Salem Bowl.
The Cats found themselves in 6th place after the first game, with only the top 4 teams after the 6-game block advancing. The Cats battled back and by the end of the day, had did exactly what they set out to do…..advance.
The Cats took 3rd behind regional champion Mascoutah and Mt Vernon and will move on along with Breese Central to Collinsville on Saturday.
Camelot Bowl will be the site for the toughest Sectional in the state with 7 of the best 12 teams in the state vying for just 4 spots to move on to the IHSA State Tournament.
Salem is trying to be the first team ever to 3-peat in IHSA Bowling.
Mt Vernon’s Brody Elliott was the individual champion. Also advancing individually were Centralia’s Jackson Mikesell and Daven Cook, Kyler VonBokel of Mater Dei and Jaxon Cushman of Christ Our Rock.
Salem was led by their 4 seniors, Silas Moats with a 1289, Rhett Detering shot 1273, Ryan Detering 1235, Keaton Gullion 1162.
