The Salem Lady Wildcats are back at home today for the first of two games this week with #1 ranked teams. Tonight Salem will host 1a top ranked St Anthony before welcoming 2a’s best in Breese Central on Friday. Tonight before the varsity game, Salem senior Emma Gregg will be honored for recently scoring her 1000th career point.
The PAWS Shootout at Breese Central was held over the weekend matching some of the state’s best girls basketball teams against each other and it was another fantastic day of basketball. In the main event, top ranked 1a Breese Central handed the #2 3a Quincy Notre Dame their first loss of the season in dominant fashion 63-47. The Lady Cougars will be at Salem on Thursday to take on the Lady Cats.
Also at Breese, Hardin Calhoun upset the #3 1a Cissna Park 34-22. Mater Dei beat Taylorville 53-32, Carlyle upset TTown 44-36, Mt Vernon banked in a runner at the buzzer to beat Highland 42-41 and Okawville knocked off #1 ranked St Anthony 46-34. The Lady Bulldogs will be in Salem Monday night as the Lady Cats will take on 2 #1 ranked teams this week.
Also in girls hoops, Wood River beat Gibault 54-38, Effingham over Mt Zion 46-42, Freeburg lost to Waterloo 47-44 and Woodlawn over Altamont 47-43.
