In total, Marion County will receive $16,047 in federal funds aimed at alleviating hunger and homelessness within the community.   Jefferson County will receive $14,853.

The funds will be distributed across qualifying jurisdictions, allowing local boards and agencies to provide crucial food and shelter services.  The deadline for local organizations to apply is December 20th.  Interested parties can find the application and additional information at https://www.uwsci.org/efsp.

The Executive Director at United Way of South Central Illinois says the funding will play a vital role in addressing the urgent needs of our community, helping us provide essential services and support to those facing financial hardships. She says it’s a significant step toward ensuring that every resident has access to the resources they need to lead a stable and fulfilling life.

The EFSP was established by Congress in 1983 and has since disbursed over $4.5 billion to support local providers in meeting the needs of hungry and homeless individuals.  For more information about the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, visit www.efsp.unitedway.org.
