The Salem Community Band and Choir is performing both Friday night and Sunday afternoon at the Salem Community Theatre.
Debbie Woodruff is one of the coordinators.
“This year, our program is entitled ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.’ It is the poem that everyone is familiar with set to music and should bring back lots of lovely childhood memories for our audience,” Woodruff said. “This year we have expanded our favorite portion of the program which is the audience sing-along portion. We have numbers that even the youngsters will know and enjoy, so we invite the whole family to come.”
Woodruff says the age range for those in the band and choir stretch from seventh grade to age 80.
Diana Sechrest says the size of the band and choir has grown considerably since its start in 2018.
“We had 27 members in the band at that time and we had 22 in our choir. Since 2018 we’ve done ten concerts, six of them here at the theater. This will be our sixth Christmas concert, but we’ve also done some other concerts throughout the community for other events, like the bicentennial event for the SCHS all-class reunion. As of today, we now have 54 members playing in the band for this concert and we have 48 people in the choir.”
The shows are at seven Friday night and three Sunday afternoon. Tickets are $5 apiece. They are available from Salem City Hall or any band or chorus member.
