Fire damaged an attached garage of a rural Mt. Vernon home, but firemen were able to stop the blaze before it could move into the house.
Jefferson Fire officials say the fire was at the Heather and Jason Page home on North Stratford Lane northeast of Mt. Vernon. Flames were showing in one of the walls and the fire had started moving into the attic. A quick knockdown kept the blaze from getting into the home. The family was able to stay in the home.
The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to determine the cause of the fire.
Mt. Vernon City, Kell, Bluford, and Wayne City were all called to the scene for mutual aid. Woodlawn and Waltonville stood by at the Jefferson Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in around eight Monday night, with firemen on the scene for about an hour.
