The Sandoval Village Board has approved a tax increment financing district application for demolition of the old theatre building on Main Street in Sandoval. The work will be done by the DDD Foundation headed by Todd Weiss. His goal is to use the property and the former Sherman’s Market to build a fire museum in the future. Weiss’ father-in-wall was long time Sandoval Fire Chief and Public Works Director Tom Nicholay.
Village Administrator LeAnn Speiser notes the theatre property is blighted with severe structural issues so approving the TIF application to demolish the building not only eliminates any safety concerns but also helps beautify Main Street.
The board agreed to move forward with hiring Curry and Associates Engineers of Nashville to develop a wastewater treatment plant plan that will be used for any future renovation or redevelopment activity. Both the EPA and Illinois Rural Water Association have stated that the existing sewer plant has reached the end of its useful light. Speiser says whether new construction or renovations at the existing plant, changes and upgrades will be made that will make the plant safer, be more cost efficient, and be easier to maintain. The plan will be presented to the Illinois EPA to determine what kind of funding assistance is available sometime next summer. The board will then have to make a decision on how to proceed.
There will be a public hearing on the village’s new comprehensive plan on December 17th at 5:45 pm before the regular board meeting. Approval of plan could then follow at the December meeting.
