The Salem Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 in the DuQuoin Lady Indians Tip Off Classic with a 43-11 win over Christopher. Salem’s defense once again was a factor forcing 36 turnovers after forcing 43 in Monday’s win over Murphysboro.
Salem led 25-5 at the halftime break, but a scary moment before halftime when Jordan Kessler took a shot to the eye, forcing her out of the game, but she was back in the second half to help Salem to the running clock win.
Emma Gregg led Salem with 14, Kessler finished with 13 and the defense of Natalie Lee was a big factor in Salem running out to the huge lead. The Lady Cats return to action Friday to finish pool play at 7:30 against the host Lady Indians.
DuQuoin is 2-0 after their blowout win over Murphysboro in the 2nd game last night. In the other pool, Woodlawn is 1-1 after their 69-26 win over Cairo and Pinckneyville is 2-0 after their 54-50 win over Sesser Valier who falls to 1-1.
Also last night, Columbia beat Father McGivney 57-48, Olney over Terre Haute South 41-33, Roxana beat Wood River 55-31.
In regular season play tonight, Sandoval is at home against St Anthony.
