A 56-year-old Salem man was injured when the semi he was driving was involved in a head-on crash with an SUV on the Dieterich Blacktop in Sailor Springs in Clay County.
State Police say Ricky Burton was traveling northbound on the Dieterich Blacktop at East Park Street when an oncoming southbound SUV driven by 42-year-old Dani Escobar of Evansville, Indiana lost control in the snow and hit Burton’s semi head-on.
Burton was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while five residents of Evansville, Indiana in the SUV sustained what State Police called life-threatening injuries. They were identified as the driver Escobar, 41-year-old Roxanne Rivera, 25-year-old Corallia Ramirez as well as three and four-year-old juveniles. State Police say the three-year-old and Ramirez were both ejected from the SUV.
Escobar was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no valid driver’s license and improper lane usage. The crash occurred at 5:35 Monday evening.
