Volleyball Post Season Continues – Salem upset by Charleston….Annies Knock Off Freeburg

The Salem Lady Wildcats volleyball season was abrubtly ended last night being upset in the regional semifinal by Charleston 22-25, 25-22, 22-25.  Salem’s season ends at 19-14.

The Centralia Annies pulled off an upset knocking off Freeburg at Mascoutah in 3 tight sets.  Centralia opened with a 27-25 victory before dropping the 2nd set 20-25.  That sets up an exciting 3rd set that saw the Annies win 25-20.  They advance to take on Mascoutah after their win over East St Louis.

At Bethalto, Effingham continued their great season with a straight sets win over Jerseyville.  Civic Memorial beat Highland in a three set thriller.

2a:  In Class 2a regional semifinals last night, it will be an all Breese final at Breese Central as Mater Dei beat Carlyle 25-10, 25-13 and Central knocked off Wesclin 25-9, 25-22.

At Columbia, the host Lady Eagles beat Red Bud and will play Nashville for the title after their win over Althoff.

At Newton, Fairfield beat Robinson and Newton over TTown.

1a:  In 1a regional quarterfinals last night at Metro East Lutheran, Patoka won their opener beating Dupo 25-15, 25-21 and will advance to the Regional semifinal tonight at 7pm against Waterloo Gibault who beat Madison last night.  The first semifinal is at 6pm with Father McGivney and Valmeyer.

At St Anthony, the host Lady Bulldogs got a win over North Clay 25-19, 25-12 and they will play Carrollton tonight after their win over CHBC.  The first semi in Effingham tonight is St Elmo/Brownstown taking on Nokomis.

At Lebanon, Sandoval’s season came to an end with a 8-25, 11-25 loss to Marissa.  Christ Our Rock advanced to the semifinal in Lebanon after their win over the hosts.  Tonight, Maryville Christian and Okawville play at 6pm followed by Christ Our Rock and Marissa at 7.

Tonight at Woodlawn, the host Lady Cardinals will play Webber followed by Sesser Valier and Steeleville.

4a:  In large school action at Collinsville, O’Fallon beat the hosts and Quincy beat Belleville East.  Edwardsville defended their home court with a win over Granite City while Belleville West beat Alton.
