Gene Gream, 74, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on January 30, 2021, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, February 4, 2021, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Camp Ground Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Dan Lovin officiating. Interment will follow at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Full Military Rites will be held by American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Gene’s honor to Jefferson County Animal Shelter. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. He was born August 22, 1946, in Bluford, Illinois to the late Finis Ewing and Mary Alice (Haley) Gream.
Gene married Jessica “Nicki” (Meredith) Gream on February 14, 1986.
In addition to his loving wife of nearly thirty-five years, Gene is survived by his children, Amanda “Mandi” Glover and husband, Gary of Richview, Illinois, Beth Lovin and husband, John of Belle Rive, Illinois, Andy Hampton and wife, Scottie of Suffolk, Virginia, Dustin Hampton and wife, Stefanie of Glen Carbon, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Gream, Terry Gream, and Kenny Gream; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his infant child, Carrie Ann Gream, and siblings, John Gream, Junior Gream, Jerry Gream, Curt Gream, and Jackie Stumborg.Mr. Gream proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam Conflict. After Vietnam duty, he served on a Marine Helicopter Squadron-One which was responsible for Presidential Guard Duty. One of Gene’s honors was guarding President Lyndon B. Johnson. Gene retired after thirty-seven and a half years from the Illinois Central/Canadian National Railroad. Gene was a member and trustee of Camp Ground Missionary Baptist Church and will be dearly missed.
