The Salem Lady Wildcats volleyball team hosted Mount Vernon last night for their annual Pink Out game.  This year, the money raised was going to Salem teacher Abby Etnier.  Prior to the game, coach Suzanne Brown announced to the huge crowd in attendance that they  had raised $10,753 with another $2500 being raised last night to bring the total to an amazing $13,200.

Etnier responded to the night via social media…

“I am in awe of the love and effort that was put into making this happen for our family. My kids didn’t attend tonight because they would like to think of me as still just being “Mom” and don’t know how to deal with that type of attention. My parents wanted to go, but took one for the team and stayed home to be with them. This crew went above and beyond numerous times to raise money for our family. I had these girls in school and know how driven, kind, and generous they are so when I think about it, I’m really not surprised that they would be capable of this. I will say my favorite part was at the end when they stopped everyone from leaving to say a prayer for myself and my family. I am once again humbled beyond words. Thank you girls! And thank you to my Salem Community.”

The Lady Cats kept that good momentum going finishing off the night with a straight sets win over the Lady Rams 25-15, 25-15.  The night began with the freshmen winning 21-15, 21-12 and the JV also won 25-18, 25-21.

In other volleyball action on Monday, SC fell to Windsor/Stew-Stras 12-25, 9-25 to fall to 7-10 on the season.  Jalynn Mitchell had 15 digs, with Bailey Wodtka adding 2 kills along with Lauren Johnson.  The SC JV won in 3 sets and the Fresh/Soph split.

The Annies volleyball team is at home tonight against Cahokia.
