Jefferson Fire Protection District officials say the owner of a home in the 1600 block of Jaycee Lake Lane northeast of Mt. Vernon sustained minor burns when exiting the burning home on Sunday night.

The man was taken to a Mt. Vernon hospital for treatment.   His name was not immediately available.

Firemen first on the scene reported smoke and flames showing.  The fire was confined to the living room and a bedroom, but the majority of the home sustained extensive heat and smoke damage.  The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Mt. Vernon, Wayne City, Kell, and Weber Township all provided mutual aid on the scene.  Salem and Woodlawn stood by at the Jefferson Fire Station in the event of another fire.

The fire call came in at 9:46 Sunday night.  Firemen remained on the scene until around one am.
