Homer W. McGehee, 98, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:02 pm on January 16, 2021, at his home.
Homer proudly served his country in the United States Army. He later worked as an electronic technician for Featherstun’s and attended the Harlan Road Church of God. He is dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Wolf Prairie Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Homer’s honor to the Harlan Road Church of God. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people in the tent at a time. He was born August 2, 1922, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Chalon and Inez (Morgan) McGehee. Homer married M. Carthel McGehee on November 16, 1939, in Mount Vernon, Illinois and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2009.
Homer is survived by his children, Ron McGehee of Belle Rive, Deloris Taylor and husband, Dean, of Mount Vernon, and Beverly Willard of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Timothy McGehee, Ronda Wilson, Donna Reed, Rick Pate, and Christopher Willard; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Wilson, and Sierra Waller; great-great-grandchildren, Jordyn Chapman, Jaci Chapman, and Dash Waller; brother, Gleason McGehee of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Homer was preceded in death by his grandson, Shawn Willard; sisters, Thelma Dare and LaVera Earls; sister-in-law, Julie McGehee; daughter-in-law, Marilyn McGehee; and son-in-law, Rod Willard.
