The Salem Lady Wildcats volleyball team opened up Cahokia Conference play with a trip to Columbia last night. Before the night’s matches began, Salem and Columbia came together as a sign of unity in support of the Columbia Student Body who lost one student and had 3 others injured in a car accident this week.
When the games began, Salem dropped to 3-2 on the season with a 2 set loss in the varsity match 25-17, 25-14. The night began with the freshman losing 18-21, 21-11, 9-15 to fall to 3-2. The JV won in three sets 10-25, 25-20, 15-14 and are also 3-2.
Defending 2a state champ Mater Dei improved to 7-0 with a straight sets win at Wesclin. They will play at Waterloo and at Gibault next week.
Carlyle defeated Sparta in straight sets, Centralia beat Woodlawn 2 sets to none.
