School board elections set for April; several to be contested

There will be contested elections in April for the Kaskaskia College Board, Salem Grade and High School Board, Selmaville Grade School Board, and Patoka School Board.    Meanwhile, for some other boards, there were not enough candidates to fill openings.

There were lotteries to determine first on the ballot in three districts.

In the Salem High School District Marla Tolliver won the lottery to be first on the ballot over Michael McKinzie.  In all, six are running for the four open seats.  Other candidates are current board President Eric Bandy and member Shawn Morris.  the two challengers are Andrew Kendrick and Joe Telford.

In the Salem Grade School race, Patty Squibb won the lottery to be first on the ballot over John Gaston.   Others seeking the four open seats are incumbents Amanda Hartley and Kerri Richards and challenger Jason Smith.

In the Selmaville lottery, three candidates in line to file their petitions as the filing period began were in the lottery.  Kyle Kell will be first on the ballot, Brook Lewis was second and Carrie McKinzie will be third.  Others running for the four open seats are Josh Tate, Lynnsey Heinzmann, and Danny Shuler.

At Kaskaskia College, four candidates are seeking the three open six-year terms.  They are Louis Kalert, Laura Wedekemper, Jeffrey Brown, and Charles Lear.  There are two candidates for the two-year unexpired term.  They are Patrick Ashby and Jim Beasley.

There will also be a contested race at Patoka School District.  Michelle Landreth, Kurtis Belcher, Mark Payne, and Russell Adams are seeking the three open seats.

At Centralia Grade School, four candidates are seeking the four open seats.  They are Ron Johnson, Lyle Gross, Derek Harlan, and Sue Williams.

At Centralia High School three candidates are seeking the three full board terms.  They are Tyson Coffey, Michael Sutherland, and Olen ‘Butch’ Border, Junior.  There is no candidate for the two-year unexpired term.

At Central City Grade, only three candidates are running for the four open seats.  They are Steven Rupe, Karlie Patten, and Matthew(Blake) Dukes.  No one filed to run for the two year unexpired term.

At Iuka Grade, four candidates are seeking the four open seats.  They are Brandon Beck, Josh Harris, Sandi Wilson, and Chad Eagan.

At Kell Grade, three candidates are seeking the four open seats.  They are R. Kathleen Howard, Delinda Youngblood, and Kacy Frank.

At Odin Public School, only two candidates are seeking the three full terms.  They are Beau Parrish and Nancy Bechdoldt.   There is only one candidate, Rudie Walker,  for the unexpired two year term.

At Raccoon Grade School, there are four candidates for the four open seats.   They are Lee Ann Schaeffer, Jennifer Little, Whitney Crist, and Steven Bradley.

At Sandoval School District, only three candidates are running for the four open seats.  They are Tyson McHenry, Angela Hunter and Jered Gambill.

In the South Central School District, four candidates are running for four open positions.  They are Dena Hoffmann, Michael Vandeveer, Jeremy Chasteen and Jason Marley.
