A Graveside Service will be held Monday, December 21, 2020 at 10:00 am at Oskaloosa Cemetery in Clay County, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you go and do something kind for someone today. This is how he would have wanted it. He never wanted to burden anyone. He just wanted us to be happy. He would have given you the shirt off his back, so it’s only fitting that I ask you share some kindness in his memory. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people under the tent at a time. Following the CDC and NFDA regulations, we encourage everyone to wear a mask. They will be made available, upon request. Call Hughey Funeral Home at 618-242-3348 or visit hugheyfh.com for further information.

Dennis always said, “family is what’s most important.” He often bragged about his two children, Jeremy and Alaina. However, what made him most proud was the birth of his three grandchildren. Making memories with his grandkids was always a priority. Dennis is survived in death by his mother, Wanda Carol (Smith) Shroyer of Mount Vernon, Illinois; two children, Jeremy Shroyer of Woodlawn, Illinois and Alaina (Shroyer) Hinze of Pocahontas, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Jessica Kash; son-in-law, Christopher Hinze; three grandchildren, Gunner Shroyer, Emma Hinze, and Brady Hinze; and life-long friends, James Powers and Kay Murphy.

A loving son, father, and grandfather, Dennis was born on March 16, 1948 in Salem, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles William Shroyer.
