A 46-year-old rural Odin man has been released on pretrial conditions after being charged in Marion County Court on Friday with aggravated discharge of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Weston Beyers of Ferrydale Road is accused of firing a 12 gauge shotgun into a shed in the 900 block of North Oak in Patoka late Thursday night who he knew or should have known was occupied.

In the probable cause statement, State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth noted Beyers became upset over a man being in the shed along with his ex.  Beyers reportedly backed his truck into the overhead garage door, knocking it off the track and causing it to fall on the shed floor.  Beyers then left but returned after driving around the block and getting into another argument with his ex.  She was able to convince Beyers to get into his truck.  After returning to the shed and shutting the door, she heard three shots being fired.  Beyers then left and returned to his home where he was later arrested without incident.

As part of the pretrial release, Judge Mark Stedelin ordered Beyers to surrender his FOID card any firearms and have no contact with the two people in the shed when the shots were fired.   Beyers also agreed to a search of his residence or person at any time to assure compliance with the pre-trial release.
