MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin and Marshall will face each other in 2028 at Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium. The game will take place Sept. 2, 2028. It is scheduled to serve as the season opener for both teams. Wisconsin and Marshall have played against each other just once before. Wisconsin beat the Thundering Herd 51-14 at Madison in 2008. Marshall also has upcoming games with Big Ten teams at Ohio State this year and at Penn State in 2026. The Ohio State game is scheduled for Sept. 21.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark got a final chance to say goodbye to Iowa fans on Wednesday, and of course there was a big crowd waiting. Clark, who became major college basketball’s all-time leading scorer this season on the way to being the consensus national player of the year, was honored along with her teammates in a celebration at Iowa’s home arena commemorating the Hawkeyes’ second consecutive national runner-up finish in the NCAA tournament. “I would say you’ve all inspired me as much as I inspired you,” Clark said to the approximately 8,000 fans at Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — John Meinen has been an avid Iowa basketball fan for decades. The 61-year-old former hoops player never lost touch with the sport, his home state or his beloved Hawkeyes’ men’s or women’s teams even after moving to Indianapolis. So with the Indiana Fever expected to draft Caitlin Clark with the No. 1 overall pick Monday night, Meinen can’t hide his excitement. He, like seemingly everyone else in the city, sees Clark making the Fever relevant again following a seven-year playoff drought.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zach Edey of Purdue became the second two-time John R. Wooden Award winner as the nation’s top men’s college basketball player. Edey joins Virginia’s Ralph Sampson, who won in 1982 and ’83. Edey led the nation in scoring and set school records for career points and rebounds. He led the Boilermakers to the national championship game, where they lost to UConn. Edey, along with women’s Wooden Award winner Caitlin Clark of Iowa, and Legends of Coaching honoree John Calipari, will be presented their trophies on Friday at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Isaiah Collier is leaving Southern California after one season to enter the NBA draft. The guard averaged 16.3 points, which was second-best on the team, and 2.9 rebounds while starting 26 of 27 games in which he appeared. He shot 49% percent from the floor and 67% from the free-throw line for the Trojans, who went 15-18 overall. Collier was the nation’s No. 1 recruit out of Georgia’s Wheeler High last year. He’s the latest to leave USC. Coach Andy Enfield departed for the SMU job and freshman Bronny James said he’s declaring for the draft while also entering the portal. Junior Kobe Johnson transferred to crosstown rival UCLA.

NEW YORK (AP) — Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will be showcased by the WNBA with 36 of the team’s 40 games on its national broadcast and streaming partners, starting with the season opener at Connecticut on May 14. Last season, the Fever had only 22 of their games shown nationally. The Fever, who are expected to take Clark first in the WNBA draft on Monday, will appear eight times across ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 as well as eight times on ION and twice on CBS. In addition the Fever will be highlighted 13 times on NBA TV, four times on Prime Video and once on CBS Sports Network.

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern says it will play the majority of its home football games next season at its lakefront soccer and lacrosse facility while a new Ryan Field is constructed on the site of the old stadium. Northwestern plans to install a temporary structure at the soccer and lacrosse field that will remain in place through the 2025 season. The school said the capacity still is to be determined, though it will be considerably lower than at the old Ryan Field and the new stadium. Northwestern is in discussions with other Chicago-area stadiums to host games. The Wildcats have played at Wrigley Field three times since 2010, including a loss to Iowa last year on a last-second field goal.
