The Kaskaskia College Board Monday night approved named its agriculture building the John D. Cavaletto Agricultural Center.
College President George Evans says the college wants to honor the hard work retired State Representative John Cavaletto did to obtain the shuttered State Ag Diagnostic Center for the college over some strong opposition in Springfield.
“The fact that he was able to secure that building for a $1 freed up the some dollars for the college to expedite some of its other projects such as the Nursing Education Center as well as find a permanent home for our ag program which has done very well over there. We will continue to grow. We are committed to hiring another instructor this fall to start our Precision Ag Program, and we have the space in that building to do that thanks to John.”
Evans says Cavaletto was always a friend of community colleges and higher education when serving in Springfield.
A formal ceremony to honor Cavaletto is being planned for this summer. Evans says Cavaletto is in charge of the invitation list and the day will be a chance to honor Cavaletto for his service as a State Representative as well as an educator and coach.
