The Centralia City Council approved bids for two public works projects at its meeting on Tuesday. Neumann Contractors was approved with a bid of $171,300 for protective coating restoration on the water tower on College Road. This project includes blasting, washing, and painting the exterior and maintenance of the interior.
The council also approved a bid from General Contractors for $60,000 to provide asphalt materials for public works maintenance in 2024.
Centralia gave a service award to retiring firefighter Captain Chad J. Gormann, who served as a firefighter for over 20 years from February 2003 to January 2024. Gormann was unable to attend the meeting to receive the award in person.
Mayor Bryan Kuder noted in his report that Centralia had received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association, crediting the work of Centralia finance director Jeremy Henderson with achieving the award.
Kuder also praised local school basketball programs for their successful seasons, including Central City Grade School, Centralia Junior High School, Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School, and Centralia High School, which have each had basketball teams win state or regional championships this year.
