The Salem City Council will consider three bids at Tuesday night’s meeting to repair damage from a small portion of the city hall roof that collapsed last month from water damage.

Interim City Manager Annette Sola is recommending a bid from McCoy Roofing totaling $38,900 to remove all damaged roofing and the old steel staircase, use a crane to lift the HVAC units from the roof, tuck point, and replace the roof and any damaged wood before resetting the HVAC unit on stronger support beams. The two other recommended bids are from Fyke Contracting. A $7,801 bid would replace the ceiling and walls in both restrooms and new drywall on the kitchen ceiling. The bid includes finishing the drywall and painting. The second bid from Fyke Contracting for $4,374 would include removing the damaged wood and drywall on the wall behind the council chambers and rehang drywall and install a door.

Sola says not included in the bids at the present time is replacement of the kitchen cabinets and counter top. She will continue to work on that portion of the project and will bring the expense back to the city council once it is determined.

Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Director Andrew Strong is requesting permission to install a HAAS Alert module in his three vehicles at an annual cost of $1,500 for a period of five years. When activated, the alert module would send a signal to update mapping systems in vehicles to notify drivers to be aware of emergency vehicles that might possibly be diverting traffic. Strong says he has raised $2,400 in donations for the system and will continue to seek more donations to cover the remainder of the cost.

The council will also consider replacement of two underground pumps at the old landfill that have been discovered to be non-operational and not able to be repaired due to lack of parts as a result of their age. The new pumps will cost $18,675.

The council will go into closed session to discuss potential sale and acquisition of real estate. The council could come back into open session to discuss acquisition of real estate.

The meeting begins at six Tuesday night at Salem City Hall.
