The IHSA boys individual state wrestling finals are this weekend at the State Farm Center in Champaign.
The Waughtel brothers of Carlyle both are still undefeated on the season and both will wrestle for state titles. Freshman Preston Waughtel has rolled through 113 pounds his first year at 53-0 and will wrestle Peoria Notre Dame’s Ian Akers in the finals.
His older brother Tyson has rolled through the season 53-0 and will wrestle for another state title in 120 pounds.
Vandalia sophomore Dillon Hinton will wrestle for the 138 pound state title tonight against Benton’s Mason Tieffel who enters the championship match at 57-0 while Hinton is a solid 49-3.
At 106 pounds, Vandalia’s Max Philpot is into the championship match where he will wrestle Eric Bush of Johnsberg. Philpot is 50-2 on the season, Bush is 35-4.
