The Central City Citians completed one of the best seasons in school history as they finished on a 32-game winning streak capped off with a SIJHSAA Class S state title after beating Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Saturday 44-29 at Rend Lake College. Archie Goewey looked more like himself after playing the semifinals sick, as he finished with 24. Kruz Jackson added 14 and Kade Jackson 8. Drake Porter had 17 to lead OLMC. The Citians season finishes at 33-1.
St Mary’s Catholic beat St Peter & Paul in the 3rd place game 58-45.
In Class L state openers Saturday, Casey Mount Vernon opened with a 47-33 win over Marion. They will play in the semifinals tomorrow against Trico at 6pm after their win over Mt Carmel 48-31. The second semifinal will see the Centralia Tigers after a 70-41 blowout win over Belleville West will take on Carbondale who eliminated Belleville Whiteside 55-38. Kenny Bratton had 19 for the Tigers in the win including a big one-handed dunk. James Strowder had 14 and Treyten Branch added 16.
