Alzheimer’s Awareness Fundraiser At South Central February 9

By WJBD Staff Feb 2, 2024 | 11:19 AM

On Tuesday, February 9, South Central and Mulberry Grove High Schools are joining together to help combat an illness that has or will probably affect someone we know. Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Alzheimer’s is the only disease with no cure, no treatments to stop, delay or prevent the disease, and no survivors. But this will change. The first survivor is out there.

During the basketball game at South Central High School, the two schools will be competing against each other but also helping to find that survivor. There will be shirts for sale beginning February 1 and also the night of the game. If you would like to purchase a shirt, they are $15 and can be reserved by sending size and payment to Mrs. Lynn Riehm at South Central High School. Also, at the game, there will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, half-court shot, free throw pledges, and pizza sales. If you would like to donate a silent auction item or just make a monetary donation, please contact Mrs. Riehm as well.

Let’s do our part to help find that survivor. All the money raised at the purple game on February 9 will help fund research to find a cure, provide support to all affected, and promote brain health. We may be rivals on the court, but we’re allies for a cure!
