The Salem Wildcat bowling team was honored at a school assembly at the end of the day on Tuesday after becoming just the 2nd team in IHSA history to repeat as champions.
Athletic Director Kevin Greene opened by telling those in attendance that bowling is different than any other sport, because no matter the size, every school competes against one another without classes or divisions.
Members of the team included reserves Jarret Rushing (soph) and Evan Gelsinger (fresh), as well as starters Rhett Detering (Jr), Ryan Detering (Jr), Keaton Gullion (Jr), Dominick Winkler (Sr) and Silas Moats (Jr).
Greene also announced that he just received word that Coach Steve Ludwig was named the NHFS Bowling Coach of the Year in the State of Illinois.
After Ludwig and assistant coach Maliyah Hamilton addressed the crowd, senior Winkler, who finished 10th individually, then spoke on behalf of the team. Describing in detail just how tough the weekend was, and how it took everything the team had to overcome the first day deficit to repeat.
