The Salem Wildcats fell to 9-18 with a road loss at Mater Dei last night 62-43. Salem jumped out to a 23-19 lead after the first quarter, with both teams combining to hit 8 three pointers in the first 8 minutes, however Salem’s scoring slowed considerably hitting only 5 field goals the rest of the night.
Salem was led by Noah Nix with 11 points, 10 each from Gavin Zimmermann and Connor Tennyson. Brennan Richardson finished with 6 points and 10 rebounds.
Drake Wagner came in for the Knights averaging over 17 points per game, and the sharp shooter finished with a game high 25. Nick Lampe finished with 13 and Garrick Winkeler added 12.
The Wildcats will return to action on Friday night when they host Freeburg before traveling to Centralia on Saturday. Mater Dei will play top-ranked and arch rival Breese Central on Friday night as they are 13-14 on the year.
The Salem short-handed JV lost 51-45.
In Roxana’s 77-34 win over Lebanon the Shells Chris Walleck went over 1000 points.
