Centralia City Firemen were called to two fires on Saturday.
The first call was at the Don Rightnowar home on Estate Drive when a natural gas line to a gas fireplace insert broke and caught fire where the insert was attached to the fireplace wall. The fire was confined to a small area and firemen were able to disconnect the gas to the insert to put out the fire. Firemen then waited for Ameren to arrive on the scene to check the gas service to make sure the house was safe. The fire call came in at 8:15 on Saturday morning.
The second call was to a vehicle fire on the Circle K parking lot on East McCord Street. Catherine Valdez of Centralia had parked her 1998 Dodge Ram after going through the automatic car wash and noticed smoke coming from under the dash. The fire was contained to the dashboard area but the vehicle is believed to be a total loss due to its age. The fire call came in at 12:22 on Saturday afternoon.
