Members of the Odin Fire Department at annual awards dinner held last weekend.

Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith says 2023 was the busiest year in the department’s history.

The department handled a total of 411 calls, including 78 fire calls, 270 rescue calls which includes EMS and auto accidents, 17 hazardous condition calls, 36 service calls, seven good intent calls and one false call.

The department reported a property loss of $88,200 during the year. There was one civilian death and two firefighter injuries.

Smith says they are looking forward to the arrival of their new truck which will serve multiple purposes. It’s arriving in mid February. In 2023 we also have purchased in Self Contained Breathing Apparatus which replaced SCBA that were 25 years old.

Smith is also thanking everyone in the community and surrounding community that continues to support our firemen’s picnic and other fundraising efforts. Without the help of these folks, Smith says they couldn’t have some of the equipment that they have today.
