The Salem Wildcats got down 19-3 after the opening quarter and were never in the game with top ranked Breese Central as the Cougars left B.E. Gum 17-2 with a final score of 53-32. The Cats will prepare for the opening of the Salem Invitational Tournament on Wednesday night against Champaign Central, the 2nd game of the opening night with top-seed Centralia and Effingham opening the tournament.
Last night, the Centralia Orphans perfect run came to an end at Chagnon as Navontae Nesbit Jr went over 1000 points late in the game on a bucket that gave his team the lead, and the Rams would hit enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the Orphans 43-38. Centralia falls to 18-1 on the year and Mount Vernon improves to 14-5. Both teams are atop the South 7 at 4-1.
The Mount Vernon Rams are right back in action today as they host Herrin. The Orphans return to action at Trout Arena against Sumner High School. The JV start is set for 4pm.
The SC Cougars fell at Dieterich 54-38. Caleb Gephart led the Maroons with 27. Max Magnus had 12 for SC and freshman Westin Neilson added 11. The Cougars fall to 10-9 on the season. South Central won the JV game.
Congratulations Sandoval Armoni Dempsey as he moved over 1000 career points last night in the Hawks game with Webber.
