A 21-year-old Centralia man has been formally charged in Marion County Court with three felony offenses in connection with the shooting of a juvenile girl at a Salem home early Monday morning.

Diego Barradas of South Brookside remains in custody following a first court appearance later today on a Class X felony for aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Salem Police say the shooting occurred at a home at 1336 North Trenary where the shooting victim was found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.   The teenage Salem girl was treated on the scene by emergency medical service personnel before being transported to Salem Township Hospital and later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.

Salem Police Chief Kyle Ambuehl says the initial 911 call from the residence at 3:03 Monday morning was for an unknown type of problem.   Barradas had left before the police arrived.  Barradas was later arrested by Salem Police following a traffic stop.
