Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in St. Elmo Saturday night that involved a Farina Police officer.

The person who was shot is identified as 36-year-old Tyler J. Roe of Brownstown.  State Police say Roe was reportedly fleeing a burglary broken up in progress in the 1600 block of North 1550th Street in Brownstown.  He was taken to the Fayette County Jail after being treated for the gunshot wounds at an area hospital.

Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation reports the series of incidents began around seven Saturday night when local officers were called to the burglary in progress with shots fired.  Roe fled the scene in a vehicle he had reportedly stolen from the victim’s residence.  The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle and initiated the pursuit.

State DCI says the Farina Police Department assisted and one of their officers completed a successful precision immobilization technique causing the vehicle to come to a stop.   As officers approached the vehicle, a Farina officer reportedly discharged his weapon striking Roe.  No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

State DCI says this is an open and ongoing investigation. To fulfill ISP’s commitment to integrity and transparency, additional information will be made public, when possible, with the advice and concurrence of the Fayette County State’s Attorney.
