One person was injured when a car ran off the Alma Hatchery Road near the Bailey Road intersection on the west side of I-57 Sunday morning.
Initial information from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department indicates 26-year-old Jamison Fletcher of South Grand in Cowden ran off the road into the roadside ditch and then struck a power pole. Fletcher was able to get out of the car before emergency help arrived. However, his dog was trapped in the vehicle and perished.
Fletcher was taken by United Medical Response to Salem Township Hospital, where he was then airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment of injuries.
The Salem Fire Protection District was called to put out the fire.
The crash occurred at 10:20 on Sunday morning.
