Salem Police arrested a 27-year-old Salem man on multiple charges after breaking up a burglary in progress Thursday morning.

Dustin Taylor of Hotze Road was ordered held without bond on charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia during his first appearance in Marion County Court on Friday.

Salem Police say they were called by a neighbor to a residence in the 300 block of South Jefferson when they thought there might be a possible burglary in process underway.  Police found a door forcibly entered and could hear someone inside.  A man then ran out the backdoor, jumped on a bike, and rode off.

Police say they stopped the bike on East Locust Street.  When exiting the bike, Taylor allegedly dropped a jacket that contained burglary tools.  Police report later finding other evidence that Taylor had been in the house.  He was also allegedly in possession of a drug instrument.

During his first court appearance, a judge found no conditions that could be put on a pre-trial release to prevent Taylor from committing another crime.
