The SC Cougars will enter today’s games at the Dieterich Tournament at 0-1 as they finish pool play with a 2:30 game against Grayville and a 5:30 contest against Sullivan. SC fell to Red Hill in yesterday’s opener 50-39 as the Cougars shot just 8-of-32 from the 3-point line. Freshman Westin Neilson led SC with 9.
Also at Dieterich, the hosts beat Ramsey 70-31, Sullivan over Grayville 52-49, CHBC beat Ramsey 74-48, Sullivan beat Red Hill 53-47 and Dieterich beat Arcola 58-55 on a last second shot at the buzzer.
Today at Dieterich, Red Hill opens the day with Grayville, then Arcola and Ramsey, followed by SC and Grayville, CHBC takes on Arcola, South Central and Sullivan with Dieterich playing CHBC to close the day.
Sesser/Valier: In the opening round of the 42nd Sesser Valier Holiday Tournament, Waltonville beat Marissa 68-36, Red Bud over Sesser 57-49, Altamont beat DuQuoin 68-48 and top-seed Goreville over New Athens 68-50. Today the day begins with the consolation semifinal with Marissa and Sesser at 3 followed by the championship semifinal with Waltonville and Red Bud. Then at 6 it’s DuQuoin and New Athens followed by the 2nd semifinal of Goreville and Altamont.
Eldorado: The 59th Eldorado Tournament opened yesterday. Top seed Carterville beat Carrier Mills 59-22, Harrisburg over Hamilton County 56-48, Massac County beat Hardin County 50-40, Vienna over Edwards County 68-58, Fairfield beat West Frankfort 67-45, 2nd seed Herrin over Gallatin County 59-34, Anna beat Eldorado 73-46, and Carmi over NCOE 44-37. The day begins today at 8:30 with Hardin County and Edwards County, followed by Fairfield and Gallatin County, then Eldorado and NCOE, Carterville will play Carrier Mills at 1:45 followed by Massac County and Vienna. The night se4ssion starts at 7pm with Fairfield and Herrin then at 8:30 it’s Anna and Carmi with the last game featuring Carrier Mills and Hamilton County.
Freeburg: The 66th Columbia/Freeburg Tournament opens at 11 with Columbia and Civic Memorial followed by Waterloo and Marquette, then Nelson County, Kentucky against Gibault, Marquette and Freeburg, Waterloo plays Columbia’s JV and the day’s final game is Columbia and Gibault.
Mater Dei: The 62nd Mater Dei Christmas Tournament opens today. Riverview Gardens takes on Red Bay, Alabama at 11 followed by McCluer and Orchard Farm, then Breese Central and Metro East Lutheran followed by Mascoutah and Nashville, Mater Dei takes on Riverview Gardens and then Wesclin plays McCluer.
