All four Marion County office holders will be running for re-election. At least one will have a challenger.

Both Incumbent Republican Troy Cannon and challenger Claude Howell were in line at eight Monday morning to file their petitions with a lottery set for 9:15 Tuesday morning, December 12th, to determine who will be first on the ballot.

Cannon will be seeking his 4th term and says he decided to run after a lot of thought and prayer. He says he has several projects he wants to finish and several goals that have not yet been met.

“Modernizing, always modernizing, not just our operations but laws and processes change.  Science changes sometimes and we are trying to keep up and stay modern.  One thing I’ve been working on for awhile is administrative things like an employee handbook and policy manual. ”

Howell, who announced earlier he would be a candidate for coroner, says he decided to run because he thinks that’s what the citizens of Marion County want.

Supervisor of Assessments Mark Miller was also on hand at eight Monday morning to file his petitions to seek a third term.

“It’s been eight years and gone by really quickly.  I really, really enjoy doing this job and I think one of the reasons is I have a fantastic staff that takes care of a lot of this stuff for me.  I enjoy working for the people coming into the office.  We always try to do our best to give people the best assessment.  Obviously people will get upset, we try our best to help them understand the process.  At this point in my life it’s the thing I want to do.”

Miller thinks the greatly reduced numbers coming before the board of review for adjustments shows his efforts have been successful.

Marion County Circuit Clerk Tiffany Schicker filed her petitions to seek a second term in office late in the day on Monday.

Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth has not yet filed his petitions but did announce his re-election bid earlier to WJBD-WSIQ news.

Candidate filing continues through next Monday afternoon at five at the county clerk’s office.
