The Centralia Orphans won their third consecutive Roxana Hoopsgiving Classic Saturday night with a 59 to 48 win over South Seven rival Carbondale.
The Salem Wildcats dropped the final two games they played in the Capitol Classic in Lawrence County. The first loss on Saturday came to Olney 64 to 40, dropping the Wildcats into the fifth-place game against Fairfield which the ‘cats lost 46 to 34.
The Mt. Vernon Rams picked up two wins on Saturday to complete play in the Stove Top Classic. The Rams topped St. Jacob-Triad 48 to 36 and Springfield, IL 71 to 35.
Waltonville won the Christopher Thanksgiving Tournament for the first time when holding on to beat host Christopher 60 to 59. Waltonville was led by Tournament MVP Kyle Cooper with 25 points. In other Saturday action, Marissa-Coulterville topped Patoka-Odin 48 to 30 Webber Township beat New Athens 68 to 55, and Ziegler Royalton defeated Thompsonville 60 to 42.
In girls basketball, the Mt. Vernon Rams took third place in the Nashville Thanksgiving Tournament with a 72 to 51 win over Freeburg. The Lady Rams were dropped into the third-place game with a loss earlier in the day to Okawville, 67 to 51.
The Breese Central Girls remain undefeated at 5-0 with a 62 to 27 victory over Pinckneyville.
