A 30-year-old Breese man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison in connection with a death that occurred late last year next to Carlyle Lake following an apparent fight.
Valentin Navarro-Lopez earlier pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the October 30th death of Marcos Chavez Xiloj. As part of the plea, four counts of murder, kidnapping, and unlawful restraint charges were dropped against him.
Navarro-Lopez maintained in an interview with police that Xiloj fell when throwing a rock at him and he had dragged him to the water to wash off the blood. A rock covered with blood was found near the body.
Navarro-Lopez was arrested after Clinton County Sheriff’s Department detectives tracked him to Georgia.
