Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says his office has completed a cleanup of the voter registration rolls.

At the end of the process, he reports there are 24,252 active voters.

“The main thing everybody needs to know we did complete a voter cleanup of the voter rolls.  Basically, if you did not get a voter registration card in the mail between June 13 and now we don’t show you as an active voter.  So, you need to contact us and have us verify that and get you registered if that is the case.  If there is something wrong with your registration like you’ve moved and not alerted us to your new address you definitely need to do that.  If you don’t, then next election we will be questioning you on that.”

Fox says 566 voters have been suspended because their voter registration cards came back undeliverable by the US Postal Service. Another 634 voters were canceled. Of those 528 moved out of the county and 106 were verified deceased.

Fox says voter cleanups are completed every two years and generally are done in the fall of the odd years.

Fox says if the new card you received does not have the correct address, please return the card with the correct address identified on the back. If there has been a name change you will need to re-register at the Marion County Clerk’s office in room 202 at the courthouse from eight to four.

If you have questions, you may contact the clerk’s office at 618-548-3400 or in person at the courthouse.
