A constant light rain kept some entries and some of the crowd away from the 96th Annual Centralia Halloween Parade, but the parade went on for those who braved the weather.
Taking the coveted Harley Queen Trophy for the top float was the Timmons Family Float ‘Magical Mischief and Muggles’.
Winning the Grand Marshall’s trophy was an entry from Flatlanders General Store ‘Santa Claus Is Coming to Town’ that featured Santa and Ms. Claus. Tim Davis was ecstatic when learning they had won one the honor. He says it took about 5 and a half weeks to put together.
“It’s the first time doing a big float. We’ve done kiddie floats before and we’ve done some smaller floats for the Halloween Parade, but it’s the first time doing an elaborate float.”
Davis says they are already planning a more elaborate float for next year.
In the school float division, the Alternative Learning Academy was first with their entry ‘Monsters, Mischief, and Who Am I’ while the Sandoval FFA with their entry ‘Nightmare on the Farm’ was second.
Calumet Street Christian Church took first place in the church division with their entry ‘Monsters-Mischief’.
In the Civic Division, the Girl Scouts was first with “Addam’s Family Mayhem’ and the ABATE motorcycle organization was second with ‘Mobile Monsters’.
In the family division, the Davis Family was first with ‘Haunted Mansion’, and the Smith, Harting, Resch, and Stover family float ‘Mario Mischief Makers’ was second.
In the Commercial Class, Fun in the Sun Travel was first with ‘Monster’s on Vacation’, and Smitty’s Burger Barn was second with their entry ‘Monsters’.
In the marching division, William Harvey Dance Academy was first and Malaysia’s World was second.
Because of the rain, none of the marching bands marched in the parade.
