Salem Police say they were never able to pinpoint the cause of a loud explosion sound reported by a number of residents on the south and east sides of the city.
Police received a half-dozen calls around 8:30 Wednesday night.
Police initially went to the 1100 blocks of South Hamilton and Rotan where some thought the explosion may have occurred, but residents there said the sound appeared to be coming from the South Broadway area. Those who heard it there thought it was coming from the area of Salem Country Club.
It’s the second time in a week a loud bang or explosion sound has been reported in the Salem area with the cause undetermined.
