The eighth person has been arrested in an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the Salem area.

35-year-old Levi Sullivan of South Salem Street in Kinmundy turned himself in at the Marion County Jail Tuesday morning on a warrant charging three counts of unlawful delivery of methamphetamine.

One of the counts is a Class X felony for alleged delivery of 15 to 100 grams of meth. The other two are Class 1 felonies for alleged delivery of 5 to 15 grams of methamphetamine. The deliveries were allegedly made to a confidential source of the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force that is conducting the investigation. Court charges indicate the deliveries occurred last November and December.

Under the new cashless bond law, Sullivan was held on a no-bond warrant until making his first appearance in Marion County Court Tuesday afternoon. At that time he received a pre-trial release that was agreed upon by the state’s attorney and public defender offices. Sullivan is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on November 1st.

Sullivan indicated he would hire his own attorney.

The Salem Police Department has an officer assigned to the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force that is coordinated by State Police.
