TSM Falls, Nashville Wins Both Semifinals, SIJHSAA State Roundup

The SIJHSAA State Semifinals were held yesterday.

At Coulterville in Class S, Trinity St Mary’s fell to New Hope 8-2.  TSM led 2-0 heading into the 5th but couldn’t hold on to the lead.  Emrie Quick had 9 strikeouts in the circle.  Bailey Pingsterhaus led the offense with an RBI triple.  Quick also tripled and scored a run, Ryle Neuhaus added a hit and run.  The Defenders will get Waltonville in the 3rd place game on Thursday at 1pm.  The title game will be at 3pm with New Hope and Century who beat Waltonville 5-0.

In the baseball tournament, Altamont Lutheran will play for the state title after their 8-3 win over St Peter and Paul Catholic.  They will play Our Lady of Mount Carmel who beat Buford/Farrington 8-0.

In Class L baseball at Centralia, Olney will play in Thursday’s championship after beating DuQuoin 6-2.  They will play Carterville after they nipped Waterloo 2-1.

In Class L softball, Carterville moved to the title game again with an 8-1 win over Sparta Lincoln.  The other semifinal saw Wesclin shutout DuQuoin 2-0.

It could be a huge day for Nashville on Thursday as both baseball and softball teams will play for the Class M state titles.  The baseball team won their semifinal at Pinckneyville beating Goreville 5-4.  They will play Trico who shutout Gallatin County 10-0.

The Nashville softball team won their semifinal over Jonesboro 3-2 and will play Fairfield who beat Coulterville/Marissa 4-2.
