SIJHSAA State Tournaments Open Up Saturday, TSM Moves To Final 4

The SIJHSAA State Baseball and Softball Tournaments opened on Saturday.  In Class S softball at Coulterville, the Defenders of Trinity St Mary advanced with an 11-0 shutout win over St John’s Lutheran.  Emrie Quick was the winning pitcher allowing 2 hits and striking out 10.  Bailey Pingsterhaus led the offense with 3 hits and 2 RBI, Quic had a triple, double and scored 3 times, Rylie Neuhaus added 2 hits and 2 RBI and scored 3 times.  Julie Siegler added a hit.

They advance to Tuesday’s semifinal at 3pm against New Hope after their 13-1 win over Our Lady of Mount Carmel.  The other semifinal at 1pm tomorrow will see Waltonville after a 13-0 win over Pope County, taking on Century who beat Summersville 10-4.

In Class S baseball Altamont Lutheran also advanced with an 11-1 win over Shawnee.  They will play Tuesday at 3pm against St Peter and Paul after their win over Crab Orchard 3-1.  Buford/Farrington opened with a 9-1 win over St John’s Lutheran.  They will play Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the other semifinal after their win over St Joe Olney 13-0.

In Class L softball at Rotary Park in Centralia.  DuQuoin opened with a 10-6 win over Hamilton County.  They will play the first semifinal tomorrow against Wesclin who eliminated Olney 5-3.  Carterville beat Massac 4-2 and Sparta Lincoln over Wolf Branch 13-2.

In Class L baseball, Carterville beat Marion 8-3, Waterloo over Whiteside 7-3, DuQuoin shutout Benton 14-0 and Olney over Breese 10-3.

In Class M softball at Pinckneyville, Nashville shutout Smithton 12-0, Jonesboro over Red Bud 3-2, Coulterville eat Crab Orchard 6-2 and Fairfield over Carrier Mills 13-2.

In baseball play, Trico over Smithton 9-0, Gallatin County beat Christopher 6-1, Nashville shutout Aviston 10-0 and Goreville over Maryville Christian 15-0.
