Salem Strength Team rostered 7 athletes in 2 sessions Sunday at the USA Powerlifting Indiana Fall Brawl. It was a long 13 1/2 hour day with session 1 weigh-ins starting at 7 am and ending with session 2 awards at 8:30 pm.
To start the day SST had 4 lifters in session 1, Lacey Gillenwater, Tobi Sexton, Hayden Hopkins and Hunter Daniels. Gillenwater and Sexton both made their return to the platform with strong performances.
Gillenwater took 1st place in Women’s Raw Junior (20-23) 75 kg class with Squat 257, Bench 121, Deadlift 297 for a 675 lb total. Sexton finished 1st in Women’s Raw Masters 1b (45-49) 100 kg class with Squat 264, Bench 137, Deadlift 264 and a 665 total.
Hopkins and Hunter both competed in their first competition and both took 1st place in their divisions. Hopkins in the Teen II Raw (16-17) 75 kg class with Squat 347, Bench 231, Deadlift 385 for a 963 lb total. Hunter with a Squat 347, Bench 248, Deadlift 407 and a 1002 lb total.
Salem started their second half of the day in session 2 with TJ Gillett, Ethan Crouse and Cayden Harris. Gillett finished strong with a 3rd place finish in the Teen II Raw (16-17) 82.5 kg class with Squat 330, Bench 214, Deadlift 474 and a 1,018 lb total. Crouse took 1st place in Teen II Raw (16-17) 100kg class with Squat 352, Bench 242, Deadlift 358 and a 952 lb total. Harris finished the day with 2nd place after an l day battle in the Teen II Raw (18-19) 90 kg class. Squat 391, Bench 286, Deadlift 463 and a 1,140 lb total.
Both Hopkins and Gillett qualified for High School Nationals with their finishing totals.
Coach Monty Murphy gets to rest until Salem Strength Team competes on October 7th when Kyle Friend and Tim Crawford will compete in St. Louis at the USA Powerlifting Missouri River Open.
