An Iuka home was heavily damaged by fire Thursday night.

Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says the fire was at the James Watson home at 408 South Main across the street from the Iuka Grade School. He reports no one was home at the time and the fire was called in by a passerby.

Eagan says upon arrival smoke and fire were coming out of the front portion of the home. He reports they got a quick knockdown, but two-thirds of the single story home sustained heavy fire damage and the other third heavy smoke damage. Eagan says fortunately they had plenty of water available.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The State Fire Marshal is scheduled to review the fire scene on Friday. There were no injuries.

Eagan says they received mutual aid assistance from Salem, Kell, Kinmundy-Alma, Orchardville and Xenia Firemen.

The fire call came in at 6:55 Thursday night. Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.
